UNISON Group expert Zhanybek Kulumbetov participated in the Regional Meeting on SINKING in Central Asia

On April 15-17, a Regional Meeting on Nationally Defined Contributions (ONUV) was held in Almaty, attended by a representative of Kyrgyzstan, an expert of the UNISON Group, Zhanybek Kulumbetov.
This important event brought together experts, activists, and government officials from across the region to discuss climate policy and the sustainable energy future of Central Asia.
The program of the meeting touched upon key topics:

  • Climate and energy policy updates in Central Asian countries
  • Effective advocacy and media engagement
  • Principles of fair transition and positions of various countries
  • Preparing for the ONUV 3.0 process and strengthening climate ambitions
  • Defining the structure of future cooperation

Zhanybek Kulumbetov told about:

  • New environmental initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic
  • State preferences for renewable energy sources
  • Green financing programs
  • And also about the youth climate caravan– an initiative to involve young people in the implementation of ONUV 3.0.

Interesting facts:
The goal of the Kyrgyz Republic is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 43.62% by 2030 with international support. An eco-plant for processing solid waste with electricity generation is planned in Bishkek
The youth caravan will cover the regions of the Kyrgyz Republic with dialogues, training and consultations.
Participation in such events strengthens Kyrgyzstan's voice in the international arena and promotes regional cooperation in the fight against climate change.
